Big break in weather today here in Central New York. Temperatures will reach about 30F. Must be the annual January thaw! To celebrate I figured to open one of my usually reserved for warm weather whites. My choice is one that was recently purchased at Lakewood Vineyards on Seneca Lake at the December 'Deck the Halls" event. A 2007 Riesling.I really liked the zesty aromas of citrus and melon with some peach. Nicely balanced with a lot of citrus, peach, melon and a hint of sweetness in the mouth with a long dry finish.
Ries
ling is one of the few whites that I have come to enjoy alot over the past two years and this is one of the best I've had.At the event it was paired with a delicious Christmas salad, but today I am having it with a left over baked chicken breast from last night. Very nice with the chicken and believe this would be wonderful with a roast turkey or with seafood. $13

Winter thaw...at 30, lol. It's like that, though, I know from my days in Michigan. I enjoyed a OneHope Chard last week. It was almost 40 here;)
The Christmas salad sounds good. What was in that?
I'm not getting updates about your posts through blogcatalog anymore. Is it me or did you quit them?
Haven't updated this post yet, all others have been posted on Blogcatalog.
Here's the recipe for Xmas salad.
Combine 1 bag whole kernel corn, 1 bag frozen peas, 15 oz can drained kidney beans, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1/2 cup chopped celery, 1/2 cup chopped radishes and 1 fine chopped red pepper. Whisk together with 1 cup of Ranch dressing, 1/2 cup mayo and generous splash of lemon juice and generous splash of Riesling. Pour over a salad and chill overnight.
BTW, when we hit 40F, it's time to clean the pool.
Hard to find many of the good Finger Lakes wines in Northern NJ and in NYC. Will have to make point of visiting region.
